COUNSELLING CENTRE
We offer training to prospective counsellors through a course in basic Christian Counselling. This course is designed to be both, simple and profound; simple enough for lay people to gain some basic insights and skills, and sufficiently detailed to be a foundation for any form of counselling or therapy. The course was developed over a number of years to include both psychological and theological aspects. It can be used in training for pastoral work, or basic counsellor training; it is even useful as a personal growth journey. The course is a combination of theory and experiential learning.
The following aspects are covered in the course- The counsellor as an instrument of healing in the Hands of God.
- It challenges the participants regarding their view of themselves and others in the light of Christ’s teaching. Three essential ingredients of counselling: warmth, congruence and empathy.
- Listening skills.
- A broad perspective on human development and the difficulties we encounter as part of the dynamics of growth, stages in life and human interaction.
- Spiritual factors that relate to the functioning of a person.
- A basic model of problem solving for the counsellor to use, and to teach.
- The course has been designed by Marge Stathakis, who, as the first-fruit of her writing career, has given it as a gift to all who would responsibly use the material.
- There is therefore no copy write but a request to use it as a complete unaltered course and that those who present the course follow the leader’s manual so that the underlying processes may not be lost.
